Men's Basketball Brings National Talent to HCC

The Hawks look to maintain their propensity for winning in the ongoing 2023-2024 season as they are poised to dominate their conference, with a current record of 13-3, 2-1. Being undefeated at home, the Hawk's Nest is an impenetrable fortress for opponents attempting to take on the team.  With a healthy mix of returners and new faces, the team is not only being led by seasoned sophomores but is also set with plenty of potential. Some key role players that are instrumental to this unstoppable force are Dominic Gooden, Caleb MacKrey, and Camerin James.

Unsurprisingly, returner Dominic Gooden has taken his role as team leader as seriously as possible and consistently sets the tempo for any competition he enters. Gooden impressively leads not only his team but as well as the Nation in scoring with an average of 29.2 points per game. He commands any court he steps foot on and his ability to change his speed at the drop of a hat leaves any defender scrambling to keep up.

Another sophomore who returned to the team is Caleb MacKrey, and he has been a commander alongside Gooden. Coming off of a brief knee injury MacKrey has been making up for his absence and has put up great numbers. He notably is averaging 19 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. His upward trajectory is bound to continue as the season goes on.

A new face on the scene is the explosive freshman Camerin James. Standing at 6’5, the guard/forward from Apopka, FL has started his first year of college basketball with astonishing intensity. With his phenomenal skills and tendency to jump out of the gym, James excels at dunking and rebounding. He averages 17.5 points per game and 13.2 rebounds per game, leading the Nation in rebounds. James is a force in the paint that other teams cannot ignore unless they want to lose.

Coming off of a disappointing loss at Florida Southwestern, the Hawks are looking to bounce back against Santa Fe College this Wednesday. Make sure to keep an eye on this team because they are on the road to glory this season and you won’t want to miss it.
