Jesus R. Verdejo returns for his 8th year as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at HCC.

Coach Verdejo is a native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, where he spent several years playing for the men’s basketball national team before coming to the United States to continue his education and basketball career. 

Coach Verdejo received a scholarship to the University of Arizona in 2004 where he helped lead the team to a Conference Championship and a great run in the NCCA tournament to the Elite 8. After spending two years at Arizona, Coach Verdejo transferred to the University of South Florida where he received the Student Athlete of the year award in 2008. Jesus left his mark in the USF history books with numerous scoring and shooting records  

Coach Verdejo earned a Bachelor’s degree from USF in 2008 with a major in Communications and a minor in Criminology in 2009. He went on to play 7 years of professional basketball in different countries such as Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico before ending his professional basketball career in 2015. Coach Verdejo received his first coaching opportunity at the collegiate level in 2015 under the leadership of men’s basketball Hall of Fame Head Coach, Derrick Worrels.

In his 8 years of coaching at HCC, Coach Verdejo has helped mentor, coach, and transition several players to Division 1 schools. He resides in Wesley Chapel, Florida, with his wife and daughter.
