Gary Larkin was named Head Coach of the Lady Hawks Volleyball team in 2003. He is also a full-time English Professor at HCC. He holds a BA in English Literature from Boston College, where he played NCAA DI lacrosse, and he also earned an MA in creative writing from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In 2022, the Lady Hawks earned a bid to the FCSAA State Championships where they finished the season defeating #15 Daytona State. HCC was ranked in the national top 20 from start to finish in 2022. It was HCC’s 16th trip to the post-season in 20 seasons. Larkin’s teams have earned 3 FCSAA State Championships, 8 Gulf District Championships, 8 bids to the NJCAA Championships, and 6 Suncoast Conference Championships. At the NJCAA National Championships, HCC finished 3rd in 2013 and 2015, 6th in 2019, 7th in 2009 and 2012, 8th in 2008, and 11th in 2006 and 2007. The Lady Hawks posted 20+ win seasons 13 times, 30+ win seasons seven times, and 40+ wins once. Larkin's record is 482-227. He has been named AVCA Two-Year College Northeast/Southeast Region Coach of the Year four times, FCSAA State Coach of the Year three times, District H Coach of the Year eight times, Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year six times, and USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Outstanding Coach. Larkin has coached eight All-Americans. Over 70 of his graduating players have earned scholarships at 4-year universities, and many have played in various professional leagues. The HCC Hawks Volleyball family continues to thrive.

Previously, Larkin had been a pioneer in USAV club volleyball in the Tampa Bay area where he helped place over 225 student athletes into colleges and universities around the US. He is married to Lisa, and they have two wicked awesome children, Aidan and Reina. Go Hawks!
