Hunter Zilbar

Hunter Zilbar was named the assistant coach for Hillsborough Community College women's basketball program in August of 2022.  

Zilbar joins the Hawks after spending the previous 4 years as an assistant coach for his alma mater, Armwood High School. Here he assisted with film breakdown, off-season workouts, monitoring of players academic performance, coordinating practice/gameplans, creating scouting reports and leading practices. In his most recent year, as the associate head coach, Zilbar led his team to a 10-2 record. In the previous Covid shortened year, he assisted the varsity Hawks to a 12-6 (67 win%) record.  

In 2021, Zilbar was selected to help coach the Eastern Conference All-stars in the Hillsborough County All-Star Game. Zilbar also has head coaching\recruiting experience at the 16u and 17u levels for AAU.  

Zilbar graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2018 majoring in Secondary Education. During this time, he trained several division 1 athletes including former WNBA player and FGCU standout Rosemarie Julien. At FGCU, Zilbar was heavily involved in day-to-day basketball operations for both, the men’s and women's side, through the event staff. He also began his basketball coaching career here through professional coaching clinics, youth leagues and select personal trainings.  

In high school, Zilbar was a tri-sport athlete, including a 3-year varsity starter for Armwood High School's powerhouse football team in which they were ranked #2 in the nation, helping them to multiple state championships. He earned a prestigious Heart of the Champion Award as the Top Scholar Athlete in the County. While balancing athletics and academics, Zilbar earned his associates degree and graduated with one of the top GPA's in his class at 5.68. His goals are to continue building on the accomplished culture here at HCC and to inspire the next generation by teaching the game of basketball.
