The no. 1 nationally ranked Lady Hawks completed the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Tournament with a historic finish winning all 9 flights. This is their third consecutive State Tournament win.
Some highlights from the tournament include:
- Arina Gamretkaia received FCSAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Year
- Coach Sarah Lytle received FCSAA Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year for her fourth consecutive year.
- The Lady Hawks won all 9 flights:
- No 1 singles – Arina Gamretkaia
- No 2 singles – Esmee Andresen
- No 3 singles – Ita Habekovic
- No 4 singles – Alicia Gomez
- No 5 singles – Camilla Mitolo
- No 6 singles – Paula Cabrer
- No 1 Doubles – Esmee Andresen & Arina Gamretkaia
- No 2 Doubles – Alicia Gomez & Yoana Dudova
- No 3 Doubles – Paula Cabrer & Rocio Martinez
The Lady Hawks will travel to Tyler, TX on May 4th to compete for the NJCAA National Championship. Hillsborough Community College has not won a national title since 2008. When asked about the team goals, Coach Lytle stated, “the goal is winning the national tournament. If we focus on the smaller details and continue to support each other, I do not believe there is another junior college women’s tennis program who can beat this team.”
