The Lady Hawks Qualify for the FCSAA Region 8 Division I Tournament

The Lady Hawks Volleyball team will participate in the FCSAA Region 8 Division I Championship Nov. 2-4 at FSW in Ft. Myers, FL. It will be the 17th trip in 21 years under Head Coach Gary Larkin.

HCC started conference play slowly as they dealt with numerous injuries. This week too they will be without three players, including Captain Zoe Myers, and will roster two players with participation limitations. "We have been forced to problem-solve more than usual this year," reflected Coach Larkin, "but we focused on a growth mindset, and the experience brought us all closer."

Recently, the Hawks have gained momentum finishing the season on a 3-match win streak, including a defeat of #16 Polk State. During that span, outside hitter Matilda Dahlstroem was named NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week. Matilda will end her career leading the nation in both kills per set and points per set.

In addition, the tandem of liberos, Eimy Domenech and Andrea Delcher have been stout on defense. Setter Gabriel Jedrzecjzak has skillfully run the offense, and middle blocker Chalina Lederer has proven to be a matchup problem with her attacking and blocking.

"We are a team that counts on discipline and trust," noted Larkin. "When we are all on the same page, we are tough to play against."

The Hawks will need work together as they face #13 Daytona State in round 1. The Falcons defeated the Hawks 3-1 on the road, and recently defeated the Hawks in a 5-set nailbiter in Tampa.

"We have worked hard to close the gap," said Larkin. "Daytona and HCC often bring out the best in each other. I suspect it will be a fight to the finish."

The Lady Hawks will travel on Thursday for the practice day and the region banquet. Plays begins on Friday with Hawks facing the Falcons at 1pm. All are encouraged to follow along with the Championship website:
