FSCAA Suncoast All-Conference Team

This year HCC Volleyball had a great regular season. The Lady Hawks ended 14-6 overall, finishing fourth in the FCSAA Suncoast conference (10-6) and 15th in the NJCAA national rankings.

There were many memorable moments this seasons that showed how much these athletes prevailed in difficult times. Earlier this month during the home match against Miami Dade State College, the Hawks battled, pushing the match tofive sets. Each set came down to a matter of a couple points, but the Hawks didn't give up. They tallied up 63 kills, 7 service aces, and 92 digs. The energy and toil these athletes displayed in these games made it a match that the Hawks family truly enjoyed.

Overall, these athletes and their grit and determination deserve all appreciation and recognition they receive.

That being said, I would like to congratulate the following players for earning spots on the FSCAA Suncoast All-Conference Team.

1st Team All-Conference

#10, Right-Side Hitter, Pia Mohr

Pia is a 6'0 freshmen from Germany. She started in twenty games this season. Pia proved that she was a threat at the net with 509 total attacks with 200 attacks for kills. This kill total ranked her 8th in the conference, and she averaged 2.9 kills per set. Pia has also been a big attribute by setting up a strong block on the right side. Pia had a total of 5 solo blocks and 41 assisted blocks.

Pia came to HCC to earn her spot on at the net, and she did just that. Currently, she is earning her AA degree in education and is looking to come back as a leader next season.

#8, Libero, Ana Oro

Ana Oro is the Hawk's libero and defensive specialist. This is her second season for the Hawks, and she earned her captain role in preseason. Last year, Ana was one of HCC's powerhouses at the net. She had 169 kills in 558 total attacks.  The power she displayed was something the opponent's defense would never forget. This season Ana stepped on the court in a different position. Ana's transitioned from an all-star offensive player to a non-stop defensive specialist. She had numerous digs against opponents' attacks and had some unbelievable saves that kept the hawks alive in the games.

This season Ana had 346 digs, ranking her #1 in the FSCAA conference and 75th in the NJCAA. She averaged 5.32 digs per set, ranking her 2nd in the FSCAA Suncoast conference and 17th overall in the NJCAA poles

These impressive defensive stats aren't the only contribution. Ana showed that she still had power with her serve. She had 25 aces, ranking 10th place in FCSAA. She has 84 career aces.

Ana is originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is finishing her AA in computer information systems. Ana has not committed to her next team but will surely get many offers in the near future.

2nd Team All-conference

#9, Outside Hitter, Svenja Rodenbusch

We have another German power force at the net this season, freshmen Svenja Rodenbusch. Svenja is one of the Hawks' outside hitters who steps up to the net with no intentions of backing down. She had a total of 207 kills, ranking7th in the conference and averaged 3.04 kills per set (49th in NJCAA rankings). However, these number don't do it justice. Svenja had a total of 651 total attacks. Every chance she got, she was swinging.

Svenja added 35 total blocks, 164 digs on defense, and 24 service aces.

Svenja is working on her AA in Biology and is looking to come back next season with just as much determination.

#2, Setter, Elena Bullemer

Our final all-conference player is freshmen setter, Elena (Ellie). Ellie is another one of our international athletes from Germany. At 5'7 this Hawk displayed quickness, choreographed plays, and accepted a leadership role on the court. Ellie was last week's FSCAA setter player of the week. She currently has a total of 586 assists, currently ranking her #1 in the FSCAA conference and 48th in the NJCAA. She averaged 8.49 assists per set.

At the service line, she had 18 aces and added 208 digs on defense.

Ellie is studying psychology and is looking forward to her leadership role again next season.

A final huge congratulations to these athletes and all the other Hawks on the court. We are very proud of you all.
